Project Brief & Requirements:
・To select an existing commercial website and conceptualize a new and innovative design for the same. Define your rationale for the novel introductions and features to enhance the essence of the brand or service.
Introduction:
Being the largest science center in India, Science City of Kolkata presents science and technology in an engaging environment that is purely educational as well as enjoyable for people of all ages. It has, over the years, become a center to promote experimental knowledge, research activities and attracts tourists from all over the world.
Target User Group/Demography:  Anyone who yearns to learn about science,
Duration:  2 Months
Academic Guides: Dr. Tridha Gajjar
Institute: National Institute of Design
Team Composition: Individual Project
Challenges:
Visual Clutter - The website has unorganized information and scattered data all over the place devoid of any connection and cohesion.
Accessibility Issues - In several places, users will face difficulty in reading texts due to low color contrast ratio such as the hero banner, ticket banners, carousels etc. We needed to address the WCAG standards.
Aesthetic Issues - There are several instances of using excessive colours, pixelated images, jerking transitions and inconsistent type scales across the website. The introductions are lengthy and tedious.
UX Testing & Audit -The user navigation is confusing and the website scored 59, 78, 59 and 73 in the performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO parameters respectively audited via the Lighthouse dev tool.
My Contribution:
→ This is a web-design conceptual project that addresses the loopholes of the previous design such as eradicating the visual clutter, adding self-explanatory imageries and providing simple descriptions of the venue's USPs. Content has been segregated as per the nature of their functionality.
→ Science City website is reconstructed to inspire, inculcate knowledge of the cosmos and spark curiosity among budding scientists, researchers, educators, engineers & students. I hope the new website aids in increasing the yearly footfall in our Science City, promotes experimental learning, nurtures the imaginative minds of future generations.
